About Yoga Vidya Niketan

Yogacharya Padmashri Sadashivrao Nimbalkar Guruji established Yoga Vidya Niketan on March 24, 1974, with the guiding principle of "Yoga Vidya Gharoghari." The primary aim of the Institute is to disseminate the wisdom of this ancient Indian tradition of Yoga Vidya to every home. The objective is to impart Yoga instruction using traditional methods to achieve and sustain the positive health of each individual, thereby contributing to the overall well-being of society.

The seed that was sown over four decades ago has now developed into a substantial tree, extending its reach beyond the borders of India. Despite the suspension of all physical activities due to the Covid-19 pandemic, this situation has allowed the institute to broaden its outreach through online classes. Consequently, the institute has attained a global presence, offering Yoga instruction online to participants worldwide. Nimbalkar Guruji was born on July 27, 1926, in Ahmednagar. From his school days, he had a passion for physical fitness and regularly attended 'Talim.' In addition to his interest in acting, he was a well-known swimming coach in his village. During the pre-independence era, he actively participated in the non-cooperation movement.

After earning his M.Ed., he began his career at Marwadi Commercial School as a Physical Trainer and retired in 1984 as Vice Principal. His wife, Smt Shakuntala Nimbalkar, also retired as a Deputy Education Officer from the Maharashtra Government's Education Department. A pivotal moment in his life occurred when he encountered Swami Kuvalayanandaji in 1959. Swamiji was the first individual to scientifically investigate the effects of Asana and Pranayama on human bodily systems at the Kaivalyadhama Yoga Institute, which he founded. This institute is a globally recognized research facility, and Nimbalkar Guruji maintained a close relationship with Swami Kuvalayanandaji for eight years until Swamiji passed away on April 19, 1966. He also studied anatomy at Mumbai's Nair Hospital and completed a course in Homeopathy, but due to his professional commitments, he was unable to practice it.
